A terminal word processor / formerly Goblin Purrfect
Old-school focus.
A new chapter.
The function keys. Reveal Codes. A page full of words.
Egill brings the WordPerfect 5.1 workflow into a Unicode terminal, with equations, images and room to write.
A new chapter
The old tools still have something to teach us.
Keep the words close. Let the machinery fade.
An illustrated writing session. Runs in ordinary terminals; Kitty and Sixel add graphic previews.
Familiar hands.
Modern text.
WP-style keys, Unicode editing, undo and redo, search and replace, tables, notes and headers.
Your documents,
with their history.
WP 5.x round trips preserve unknown codes. Atomic saves, versioned backups and recovery snapshots protect ongoing work.
Equations in view.
Pages in print.
Local equation rendering adapts from Kitty to Sixel to Braille. Optional LuaLaTeX and Poppler provide PDF export and print preview.
Release {{VERSION}} · {{DATE}}
Choose your machine.
This is an early compatibility release. WP 5.1 support is still growing; WP 6 export supports a subset of features. See the included documentation for format limits. Each download includes the executable, installer, documentation, fonts and license notices.
Installers use ~/.local/bin/egill and keep each release in ~/.local/share/egill. They preserve older versions and refuse to replace an unrelated executable. Add ~/.local/bin to your shell’s PATH. Set EGILL_PREFIX to install elsewhere. No administrator privileges are needed on macOS or desktop Linux.
